Who We Are

Who We Are

We’re two brothers currently living in Central California. In the sixties, our Dad took us to see Johnny Cash and it did something to us. Subsequently, we ended up writing and recording songs together for about twenty five years. We decided early on to be the Underground Turtles, after a fictitious newspaper listing my brother randomly made up when we were kids. For purposes of identification here, we will be known as UT1 and UT2. I put this site together because we have almost two hundred rough demos that haven’t seen the light of day since they were recorded. Maybe someone will find something to like in one or two of them. Oh, I’m UT1 and I play all the music and sing. UT2 is the lyrics guy. And along the way I did some art and UT2 has written a bunch of poetry. Thanks for wandering by.

Before there were computers we chiseled out a small list of artists who inspired us in some way. Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska album. Honorable mention goes to Gordon Lightfoot.
